Cooking can be another form of a style statement. Eating fresh as possible whenever possible is a great way to go! When friends visit, I love it when they take over the kitchen too.  My brother enjoys whipping up a big country breakfast for the family and we really love it!  Whether you enjoy picking strawberries in season, visit your local farm market or just indulge in their delicious produce.    Home grown herbs are easy way to get a garden into an urban lifestyle; especially if you have a love of exotic flavors and spicy combinations.  To me, the best are unique flavors inspired by a range of cultures mixed with the home-grown goods I can purchase from local growers. Bon Apetite!

REALLY EASY!

Winter 'Sabi Soup

Simple Steps:  Start with your favorite type of broth- I chose veggie because that's what I had on hand.

Saute some of your favorite vegetables- here I used red onion, celery, carrots and sauerkraut.  Season with a bit of celery salt and dill.

Squeeze fresh lime in the bowl just before serving. Add Wasabi Peas (watch out these little guys are potent- very HOT!)  If spicy is not for you...a handful of oyster crackers will add a little crunch with out the ouch! :)

If you like, you can vary this recipe by pre-cooking shrimp or chicken and adding to the soup.

Decadent sweet tooth deserves a decadent dessert!

As a stylist, fanciful touches are so fun to do!

Cooking is a definite passion...food is about sharing ideas with others and staying inspired in the kitchen.  As a stylist that loves to cook.. preparing food that looks beautiful can be a creative endeavor to be savored every day...

veggie tacos

another quick favorite....this one's for you Dad!

The big decision....corn or flour?  Make your tortilla pick and go!

Layer your tortilla with:

Sweet canned corn

Pickled carrots with jalapeno

Spinach

Sprinkle on some shredded Wisconsin Cheddar

Top off with Green Olives stuffed with feta or jalapenos (if you like the spice!)

For a little more oomph add frijoles negros (black beans)

I'm calling these the "not so pretty" pizzas although they are delicious.  Pizzas are so fun because you can change them up and serve them so folks can have a few different tastes going on.     You can take a "short-cut" with pizza by starting with a pre-made cheese pizza and adding your favorite ingredients.

Here are a few versions to try or even better...make up your own favorite.

Mix minced garlic into strained fresh diced tomatoes and add to pizza.  Take pre-made pesto and add hazelnut oil and a few drops of balsamic vinegar.  Mix it up and drizzle over the pizza before you bake. Pop in the oven for 10-12 minutes, cut and serve!

Artichokes, kalamata olives, sun-dried tomato, roasted red and yellow peppers and spinach.

These pizzas were served with a salad of mixed greens, sliced green apple, gorgonzola cheese, pine nuts and a drizzle of maple fig dressing. Mangia!
